Malaga Airport to Benamara

Kat: “Hi Mike I was hoping you could help me with some information please? I have booked an apartment in Benamara and I am planning on getting a bus from Malaga airport to Marbella bus station then a taxi from there to the apartment. Do you think this is the best way to get there and back? I am familiar with the Costa del Sol but unsure of the exact location of Benamara. Many thanks, Kat.”

Mike: “Hi Kat, Thank you very much for checking in to www.gomarbella.com

Yes, with all the money you save by taking the Malaga airport to Marbella bus, you can treat yourself to a taxi. I am guessing but it could be around 20 to 25 euros. Benamara is about halfway between Marbella and Estepona. The taxi will go past Puerto Banus, past San Pedro and then it has to overshoot Benamara, do a U turn about a kilometre beyond Benamara and then come back towards Marbella before turning off right towards the sea to Benamara.

The A7 through San Pedro is being closed from mid September 2009 for about 15 months whilst the tunnel is being built and for this reason it will be simpler to take the taxi from Marbella rather than travelling on to San Pedro and taking a taxi from there.

Here are all the bus stops between Marbella and Estepona and your Benamara bus stop will be El Pilar. You can get up and down the coast easily by bus without having to take a taxi again. Always use the footbridges!

I hope this helps you Kat, let me know if I can help any further. Best wishes from Marbella, Mike"

PS: You can now do online bus ticket reservations through the gomarbella reservation system.

Hi Mike. First of all, I would like to thank you because I am finding your blog and gomarbella.com extremely useful.
I am planning to relocate in the Marbella Area for professional reasons. In particular, I will be working in Saladillo - Benamara (Edificio Altair) but I am considering to find accomodation in Marbella. Now, I gave a look to the Marbella - Estepona bus route but I could not find any information about the intermediate stops along the route like your page "all the bus stops between Marbella and Estepona" specifies. I noticed that I could use the stop El Pilar, as you suggested to Kat. Am I correct?

I found no information about intermediate stop even on the bus company website (avanzabus.com). They only specify San Pedro as intermediate route. Plus, there are two different services for this route: Normal, which takes more than an hour and Express, which takes about half an hour. Do you know if both of them have the same intermediate stops, or some of them?

Could you help me with that? I found no details either on their website or contacting them.

Thank you very much!

Davide

Hi Davide, well done on all your investigation and welcome to the Costa del Sol. I am pleased that the information on Gomarbella is helpful. I will put in a link below to all the bus stops between Marbella and Estepona, please just copy and paste it into your browser.

El Pilar is a good bus stop for that area.It is next to a footbridge to cross over the busy A7 road and there are lots of shops, restaurants and accommodation right there.

Your are right, the Avanzabus.com bus site does not list intermediate stops. I think the only place you can find them is on Gomarbella! The NORMAL service stops at all the intermediate stops and the EXPRESS only stops at places like Malaga, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Marbella, San Pedro and Estepona. It is much faster but no good if you want to get off in between the bigger towns.

Here is another link to all the bus services to and from Marbella.

Check out the information Davide and let me know how I can help you. Best wishes from Marbella Mike

Thank you, Mike.
I arrived yesterday in the area. Once got at Marbella station I sadly found out there are no Monthly Pass for the Marbella - Estepona route, not even 10 trips discount or something like that. How can a professional commute in the area without any discount on public transportation? Since my office is located between San Pedro and Estepona, would I be able to get on the bus on one of the bus stops on the A7 and buy the ticket directly on the bus (any direction)? And if so, will the ticket cost the same as for the entire route or can I specify the intermediate stop I'm going to get off and pay less?
Thank you in advance for your help. It is deeply appreciated.

Hi Davide, welcome to the coast! For local travel on buses within Estepona or San Pedro or Marbella there certainly are discounts. I am sorry but I don't know the answer regarding inter urban travel on the Portillo buses.

Here is a list of bus stops between Marbella and Estepona:

You can certainly specify where you are going to get off when you get on the bus to pay. The stops are grouped in bands, so if you travel out of one band and into the next band, you will pay very little. I am sorry about my late reply, by not you will probably have found out the answers. I hope you have been enjoying the great weather! Best wishes Davide, hope you will be happy living here. Mike
